I am honored to announce my decision to seek the office of City Council for Ward 6. This decision was not made lightly, but rather with deep consideration for the needs of our community and the opportunity to bring meaningful change.

Carrissa L. Corbett: A Dedicated Leader, Advocate, and Voice for Gulfport

Carrissa L. Corbett is a community servant, nonprofit founder, and tireless advocate for the people of Gulfport, Mississippi. With a lifelong commitment to service, empowerment, and civic engagement, she has dedicated herself to uplifting individuals and families, strengthening communities, and fighting for meaningful change. Now, Carrissa is stepping forward to serve as the next City Council representative for Ward 6, bringing her passion, education, lived experience, and vision to the heart of local government.

A Journey of Leadership and Service

Carrissa’s journey of public service began in the classroom. As a Head Start teacher, she worked closely with young children and their families, witnessing firsthand the challenges they faced in accessing supportive services, quality education, stable housing, and economic opportunity. This experience ignited her passion for community advocacy, pushing her beyond traditional teaching into leadership roles that would allow her to address these issues at a systemic level.

Determined to create real and lasting change, Carrissa took on a pivotal role as Director of a Rapid Re-Housing Program. In this position, she provides essential support to homeless youth ages 16-24, ensuring they have access to safe housing, mentorship, workforce training, and life skills development. Carrissa understands that housing is more than just shelter—it is a foundation for stability, independence, and a brighter future. Her work has helped countless young people transition from crisis to success, reinforcing her belief that compassionate leadership and strategic investment in people can transform communities.

Founder & CEO of Memorable Moments Outreach

In 2023, Carrissa took her commitment to service even further by founding Memorable Moments Outreach (MMO), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth and families across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Under her leadership, MMO has become a pillar of support, providing critical resources such as: utility assistance for individuals and families in need, financial literacy programs to help individuals build economic stability, educational support, tutoring, and mentorship for young people, Mental health and wellness resources to foster personal growth, and Leadership training to create long-term opportunities.

Through MMO, Carrissa has empowered countless individuals with the tools they need to thrive, reinforcing her deep belief in community-driven solutions and the power of collective action.

A Respected Community Leader and Advocate

Beyond her nonprofit work, Carrissa has taken on leadership roles in local organizations that champion civic engagement and economic empowerment. She proudly serves as President of the National Council of Negro Women – Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter (NCNWMSGC), where she advocates for education, workforce development, and policy initiatives that uplift women, families, and communities.

She is also an active member of the Gaston Point Civic Club and Coast Young Professionals, where she collaborates with local leaders, business owners, and community organizers to address the issues affecting Gulfport residents. Through these roles, Carrissa has been a strong voice in the fight to bridge the intergenerational gap, increase voter turnout, improve economic conditions, and tackle food insecurity caused by the high grocery tax.

A Leader Rooted in Family and Community

At her core, Carrissa is a mother, daughter, and sister who understands the importance of love, resilience, and hard work. She draws strength from her family- most importantly, her teenage son. As a mother and mentor, she is deeply invested in building a safer, stronger, and more equitable Gulfport for future generations.

Guided by her personal motto, “Reach One, Teach One,” Carrissa believes that every act of service creates a ripple effect of positive change. She has dedicated her life to lifting others up, ensuring that no one is left behind, and fighting for Gulfport where everyone can succeed, thrive, and call home.

The Time for Change is Now

Carrissa is not a career politician—she is a community leader, a problem-solver, and a woman of action. She has spent her life working alongside the people of Gulfport, not above them. She knows what it means to listen, to serve, and to fight for the needs of the people.

Now, she is ready to take that fight to City Hall. Ward 6 deserves a leader who is accessible, engaged, and committed to progress—a leader who cares deeply about the community and will work tirelessly alongside her colleagues to make sure your concerns are heard and addressed. Carrissa L. Corbett is that leader.
